As indicated on its website late last year, Sax LLP opened an application process up to identify one not-for-profit organization in the New Jersey/NYC metro area who best demonstrated efforts towards sustainability. The winner was announced during the firm’s Founder’s Award celebration on January 25, 2018 at The Chart House in Weehawken, NJ. Imagine: A Center for Coping with Loss was selected out of 187 application submissions from other not-for-profit organizations to receive the unrestricted cash award of $15,000. The grant will support their mission of providing free year-round peer support groups for families and children who are dealing with loss due to death or a life-altering physical illness.

Sax LLP held its first Founder's Award celebration on January 25, 2018 to recognize and reward local nonprofit organization in the New Jersey/NYC metro area. According to the company's website, Sax's Not-for-Profit Practice initiated the application process and nearly 190 nonprofit organizations submitted essays and/or videos for their chance to win the sustainability award. Consequently, four independent judges went through all submissions in a thorough and in-depth review process to determine the winner. Imagine, a nonprofit organization based in Mountainside, NJ emerged as the winner and was awarded the $15,000 unrestricted cash reward.

Sax's Founder's Award event included over 200 nonprofits in attendance and speeches from Sax LLP’s Managing Partner, Joseph A. Damiano; keynote speaker, Gian Paul Gonzalez; and host Todd Polyniak, Head of Sax’s Not-for-Profit Practice. Imagine, the not-for-profit organization that won the award is a grief support center for children, young adults, and families dealing with the death or life-altering illness of a parent, sibling or child. The organization is currently serving over 220 children and families from over 44 New Jersey towns in its center every two weeks.

In addition to the Founder’s Award winner, two runner-up organizations were selected for their impressive sustainability efforts. Partners for Women and Justice, who focus on free legal assistance to victims and survivors of domestic violence, came second. Third place was awarded to Spectrum360 who focuses on providing the highest quality of educational and therapeutic programs for individuals with autism. Sax LLP donated 40 (second place) and 25 (third place) volunteer hours respectively towards the missions of the two runner-ups, which employees of Sax LLP will fulfill.
