IIM Lucknow Students Head to Foreign Universities

This year, 53 students from IIM Lucknow are heading to foreign universities as part of the Student Exchange Programme, 2010. The international student exchange is at the forefront of IIM Lucknow's efforts towards international exposure and recognition. IIM Lucknow has alliances with prestigious institutions across the globe spread across 4 continents and 22 universities. IIM Lucknow will also play host to 30 foreign students from other countries.

The students proceeding to the foreign partner universities will leave as ´ambassadors‘ of the country and their institute. The previous batches of outgoing students have won numerous accolades like “Best International Student Award” in HHL Germany. In addition to acting as brand ambassadors of IIM Lucknow, these students promote the Indian culture, ethos and values in the respective partner institutes.

The Student Exchange Programme at IIM Lucknow has grown over the years. The programme, which had a modest beginning in 2001, has grown to be one of the biggest Student Exchange Programmes in the country. The International Student Exchange Programme of IIM Lucknow has been ranked amongst the best in the country according to the latest B-school surveys. Several reputed foreign universities are partnering with IIM Lucknow for the Student Exchange Programme. This brings advantage and exposure to the students of IIM Lucknow as well as the partnering Universities. While these associations bring about the exposure to different teaching methodologies for the students, they also entail a cross-cultural exchange in an increasingly globalized world. To name a few, the partner institutes include ESCP-EAP, France, McMaster University, Canada, ESSEC, France, EBS, Germany, HHL, Germany, REIMS, France, CBS, Denmark, UCL, Belgium, Bocconi, Italy, ESADE, Spain.

Prof. Shailendra Singh, President, Student Exchange Cell, gave insights into how the institute views the student exchange programme. He says, “Students from IIM Lucknow will act as brand ambassadors of IIM and India abroad. The international exposure will also broaden their understanding of various issues related to management and help them handle ambiguity better in the years to come.”

Mr. Nikhil Grover, a Marketing & Systems student, who is heading to EM Strasbourg, France, is overwhelmed by this opportunity and said, “The Student Exchange program offers tremendous exposure to students like me, who want to soak in as much as possible from their Master‘s degree, and get a feel of what the education system has to offer at a global stage.”

Mr. Charles Bernard, an exchange student from EM Strasbourg, France finds his experience enriching. He said that, “Wonderful, amazing, huge and different, are the words which came to my mind when I recollect my stay at IIM Lucknow for the last 3 months. I feel it to be a great experience. I really enjoy my life as a student of IIM Lucknow. I am happy to find so good teachers and enriching lectures. The campus is really nice. Also, the Indian students are quite good. I think I'll build strong friendship with many of them.”

Already, a few foreign students are on the campus. More will fly in soon. IIM Lucknow will also be hosting European dinner along with European Cultural Evening for its foreign visitors. IIM Lucknow has been instrumental in negotiating a pan IIM deal of air tickets, insurance, Eurail passes and foreign exchange for the exchange students this year.
