(12PressRelease.com) An angry competitor reacted badly (and quickly) to a seemingly innocent Press Release last month.
PeterGuiliano Local Business Marketing announced they'd achieved Google Australia front page results for dozens of keyword phrases in the launch of their new small business SEO and local business marketing company — operating out of Melbourne Australia.
Within days of the press release going out, Peter Guiliano was surprised to read an anonymous email ridiculing the press release and its contents.
"Presumably it was from a local competitor" Guiliano surmised, "They must have lost some business to me as there didn't seem to be any good reason for them to bother writing".
The sneering, unsigned hotmail email did raise two important issues, though, according to Peter Guiliano.
"One point was pretty self-defeating" Peter claims, "As they ridiculed the Press Release itself. That really did strike me as pretty contradictory. The Press Release was the very thing they noticed and wanted to criticise, so if it was no good, why bother with it at all?"
But the writer's second objection raises a number of legitimate and, "Telling" issues according to Guiliano.
The main objection raised in the anonymous email was that the keywords were useless. Although PeterGuiliano Local Business Marketing got 120 different keyword phrases onto the front page of Google, the writer claimed no one searches for those keywords.
"That point is a very legitimate one and, at the same time, a very revealing one, for the writer to make." Guiliano said.
"Of course there is no value in being on the front page of Google if no one ever looks at those search results.â€
“But the revealing part of the objection is that the anonymous writer shows that he relies entirely on Google's keyword tool. That tool is nothing more than an indication of the records that Google has for PPC campaigns."
Guiliano is a local business marketer and he says that local search volumes are often too low for that tool. "The only way to tell what terms work is by running PPC campaigns to test out what searchers are really looking for."
"I'm hoping this guy (the anonymous writer) sticks with his thinking, because he doesn't seem to know too much about local SEO marketing. My server log files and Analytics show that several of these so-called no-searches keyword phrases bring me customers."
If these local search terms don't generate calls, then Guiliano wants to know why the writer is so upset that PeterGuiliano Local Business Marketing has so much Google front page real estate.
"Frankly. my business model purrs along nicely with 120 useless keywords on the front page of Google. I prefer that position much more than being on any other page for keywords that lots of people are supposedly searching for."

According to Guiliano, local marketing SEO for Small and Medium size businesses is mostly a foreign language to the old SEO companies; and they are not really that interested in learning how to do it.
