Keep the big picture in mind as you figure out what you must do to start an exercise program and get back into shape. You have to let exercise become a regular habit in your life so it will be successful. This is something that a lot of people fail to notice.

You will discover that your body is changing and reacting to your new workout plan. As you change other routines also, they will, in some fashion, affect your body. We'll talk about some areas that will change based on your new exercise program. For example, generally just taking better care of your body and eating healthy foods will make a difference.

If your body isn't used to working out, you have to give it time to adapt to an exercise program. Avoid, or minimize, your chances for injury by doing simple warm up stretches before your workout and cool-down stretches afterwards. Warm up before you begin by doing some light aerobics and stretching out each muscle group. Then you can slowly move into your primary workout. The best way to cool down your muscles after your workout is to do another 10 minutes or so of gentle stretching of all muscle groups. Doing both of these will prevent your muscles and supporting tendons and ligaments from being shocked and possibly damaged.

If you don't have the time or patience to warm up and prepare your body properly before you workout, you are making the same mistake that countless other people have made. In order to prevent injury, the first thing you must do before you exercise is stretch out your muscle groups. There are a few simple and quick stretches you can do to warm up and stretch the muscles in your upper body. Trunk stretches are one of the stretches you can use for your upper body. With your hands on the waist, gently twist your upper body alternating left and right. You will also benefit by doing some simple stretches for your neck and upper back. To stretch out your back, bend gently from the waist - first forward and then backward. Don't force the stretch. For your neck, drop your chin to your chest and hold the position for about 10 seconds; then drop the back of your head towards your upper back and hold that position for 10 seconds.

Fitness as a family will only begin when both parents see it as something important. Children really need to see their parents doing what they are asking them to do. Talking things over in a family meeting is something that must be done. Exercising should be fun for all members of the family, so there might need to be some compromise. To get many of the benefits, you need to have a family exercise program. Communication and togetherness will be encourage by doing something together.

A good warm-up with stretching is vital to help prevent injuries in your fitness program. Not only that, but it is highly advised to cool down after you finish you workout. If you try to take shortcuts, you leave yourself liable to injury. If you do weight training, then you have more of a reason for stretching. The reason this is so important is because lifting weights causes your muscles to become shorter. So take the time to do the things that keep your body in the best possible health.
