As a part of its endeavour towards building Intellectual Property (IP) culture and hygiene among Start Ups and Entrepreneurs, Brain League organized a seminar on 27th November at Bangalore.
The sessions at the seminar were delivered by highly qualified experts having immense experience in different aspects of IP . The first session on IP Management for Start Ups was delivered by Professor Anil Suraj Bangalore from IIM, Bangalore. After giving an overview of global IP protection system, Professor Anil spoke about IP standards and management challenges for Start Ups. He also emphasized on the need for developing IP strategy in confirmity with the business goals of an organisation.
Following the edifying talk on IP Management, Mr. Nishanth Kewalramani, Portfolio Manager at Brain league, delivered a talk on IP Protection Management and Risks. During the talk, Mr. Nishant outlined the steps to be taken by Start Ups for protecting their IP. He also gave an insight into risks from IP to a Start Up company.
Dr. Kalyan Kankanala, Chief Knowledge officer at Brainleague, an expert at analysing agreements and building negotiation strategies delivered the post lunch session on Important agreements and negotiation strategies for start ups. Shedding light on the different kinds of agreements and their clauses, Dr. Kalyan listed out various aspects, which start up companies tend to ignore while entering into agreements. Dr. Kalyan also organized a role play for participants in order to teach negotiation skills.
After the talks from experts, Brain League organized an IP Counselling session for participants. Three panels were constituted to provide counselling on various IP issues to participants. Counselling was aimed at helping Start Ups understand IP steps to be taken based on their business interests.
The participants at the seminar included Start Up companies and aspiring entrepreneurs. Most of the participants felt that the seminar was very useful and timely. Mr. Pratap Pai from Lucid Imaging Private Ltd said, " there is very limited information available on IP. This seminar was informative, especially the aspects relating to filing and protection procedures."" Shivraj Kumar, an individual inventor, appreciating Brain league said, " I was looking for a service of such kind for a long time now. My knowledge of IP is limited only to the internet and I did not know the right steps to take for protecting my inventions. These sessions have definitely answered most of my questions with respect to IP protection and strategy." Considering the success of the Seminar and feedback of participants, Brain League is planning to organize more seminars of this kind at various cities in India.
