The first five days of meetings have generated an estimated revenue of over 295 million US dollars (over 9.4 billion Baht)

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce today announced the results of the business activities of the twelve Thai companies that attended the Marché Du Film.

Mr. Boonyarit Kalayanamit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce said, “The Government of Thailand is committed to promoting the capabilities, skills and creativity of Thailand’s digital content industry within the global market. One of the core aims of the Ministry of Commerce is to support Thai products and services in fulfilling their international business potential.

With the aim of creating trade opportunities and generating inbound revenue, the Ministry supported twelve Thai companies in their attendance at the Marché Du Film from 14-23 May 2019 at Cannes. They engaged in 371 meetings with international companies. The most frequent nations represented in these meetings were China, Taiwan, USA, Hong Kong and South Korea. Forecasts of generated revenue within the next five years as a result of these meetings is estimated at over 295 million US dollars (over 9.4 billion Baht)

This is a positive sign of the quality and competitiveness of Thailand’s film industry, and we are confident that there is still much potential for future growth.”

In the Marché Du Film, action, thriller and horror genres garnered strong market interest, particularly ‘Nemesis’ from M Pictures Co., Ltd., ‘Pee Nak’ from Five Star Production Co., Ltd., and ‘Sisters’ from Sahamongkolfilm International Co., Ltd.

Thai companies providing production services and facilities have also been successful in attracting inbound productions and international co-productions. Thailand’s crews, facilities, and infrastructure have established a strong reputation for quality and efficiency to international standards.

Representatives of the twelve Thai attending companies were in agreement that Thai films hold a strong position in the international market, and that attending the Marché Du Film brings trade opportunities and increased global awareness of Thailand’s film industry. They recognized the important role that the Thai government has played in supporting the industry, and expressed their confidence in an expanding international market for Thai film productions and film services with the continued support of the government.
